The countryside of Northamptonshire is dotted with a varied range of diverse towns and villages. Each one has a unique character of its own – some are busy and bustling, others are quaint and quiet.
The main towns in the county include Corby, Daventry, Kettering, Northampton, Towcester and Wellingborough.

Corby
Corby is a large industrial town, with a population of around 54,000, and some big ideas for the future.
Daventry
Daventry began as a small Anglo-Saxon village in around 920 and by the 12th century had become home to a notable priory.
Kettering
Kettering is a large market town, with a population of around 52,000. Having the advantages of a central location and superb residential amenities Kettering enjoys the best of both worlds – town and country are combined to great effect here.
Northampton
World-famous for centuries as England's 'Shoe Town', our county town is still a thriving hub, with a population of over 189,000, making Northampton the UK’s 3rd largest town without official city status.
Rushden
A strong network of vibrant settlements with excellent transport connections is key to North Northamptonshire’s appeal. In Rushden and other areas of East Northamptonshire, you will find stunning countryside on your doorstep but still be able to benefit from easy access to London.
Towcester
The attractive market town of Towcester can lay claim to being the oldest town in Northamptonshire, with evidence of settlements here in the Iron Age.
Wellingborough
The town of Wellingborough dates from the 6th century. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of Wendelburie, and was granted a market charter in 1201. Today it has a population of 72,000.
