The town is home to The British School of Leather Technology and still has the largest concentration of leather-related activity in the UK, with some 100 leather businesses employing highly skilled craftsmen and women.

This community of shoemakers and leather specialists have a deep seated knowledge in their craft and are passionate about their heritage. Their educational, manufacturing, technical and innovative expertise is recognised world wide.
